Biography
Dr. med. Christian Haverkamp is a board-certified neurologist and medical informatician at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg, where he is Acting Director of the Institute of Digitalization in Medicine and works as an attending neurologist in the emergency department. His work focuses on applied artificial intelligence and large language models in clinical routine and documentation, real-world data analytics and clinical decision support.
He studied medicine at RWTH Aachen University and holds subspecialty certifications in neurological intensive care medicine and medical informatics. He is involved in several projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the Medical Informatics Initiative, including INTERPOLAR (IT solutions to improve medication safety), ACRIBiS (personalised cardiovascular risk prediction on the MII infrastructure) and KIDELIR (hybrid AI models for delirium prediction in nursing). His publications cover nationwide real-world outcome data on the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, the evaluation of open large language models for clinical documentation in German health care and the implementation of AI documentation support in routine practice.
