Biography
Catharina Gerhards is an attending physician at the Institute for Clinical Chemistry, University Medical Center Mannheim (Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University). She studied medicine in Mannheim, completed her residency at the institute under Prof. Michael Neumaier and obtained her board certification in laboratory medicine in 2025. Her doctoral thesis at the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Immunology examined the expression of platelet receptors in ex vivo megakaryopoiesis (summa cum laude, 2022); in May 2026 she completed her habilitation in laboratory medicine.
Her research covers several SARS-CoV-2 studies (Immunitor I–IV, LAGGO) and integrative diagnostics in inflammatory states, with 22 publications listed on PubMed. She is a member of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) and the Lesser-Loewe Foundation.
