Axel Unger

Axel Unger is CEO of Kaiser X Labs, a roughly 200-person company within Allianz Group, where he leads the design of AI-enabled customer experiences in a regulated environment. He spent much of his career at IDEO — first as Head of the European Health Practice, working with Novartis, Sanofi and Bayer, and later as Managing Director of IDEO Germany with full P&L responsibility. His product work includes the Laerdal Stifneck cervical collar, the first single-use insulin pens for Eli Lilly, and RoomWizard, one of the earliest commercial IoT products. He trained as an industrial designer at the Rhode Island School of Design and is an INSEAD-certified executive coach. For more than 25 years he has been working on the same question: how to create innovative new products, services and businesses that add value to people and their lives.
