Biography

Andrea Padoan is Associate Professor of Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology at the Department of Medicine (DIMED), University of Padova, where he has taught since 2014 and held faculty positions since 2016. He graduated in Biology from the University of Padova (2004), completed his postgraduate training in Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology under Prof. Mario Plebani (2011, full marks with honours) and obtained a PhD in Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the University of Milano-Bicocca (2014) with a dissertation on statistical methods for mass spectrometry data and prostate cancer biomarkers. In 2013 he was a visiting PhD student at the Department of Pathology, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Since 2022 he has chaired the EFLM Working Group on Artificial Intelligence (C-AI). He co-chaired the SIBioC working groups on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data (2019–2025) and on Statistics within the Laboratory (2012–2025) and serves as expert consultant to the EFLM Working Group Preanalytical Phase. He is principal investigator of grants from the Italian Ministry of University and Research on big data and personalised laboratory medicine and from the Ministry of Health on non-invasive diagnostics for inflammatory bowel disease, and co-author of two international patents. He sits on the editorial boards of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM), where he guest-edited a special issue on artificial intelligence in the laboratory, and Biomedicines. His record comprises around 190 peer-reviewed publications with an h-index of 35 (Scopus); his awards include the SIBioC Ceriotti Award (2024) and the Bonvi Prize for young scientists (2012).
