Biography
Alexander Hertel is a board-certified radiologist, junior consultant and deputy head of the Section for Multimodal Breast Imaging at the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, University Hospital Mannheim (Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University). He studied medicine in Mannheim, trained in radiology under Prof. Stefan Schönberg and completed his habilitation in experimental radiology in August 2026. In late 2025 he was a research fellow in AI for medical imaging at Siemens Healthineers in Princeton, USA.
As a member of the research group “AI in Radiology” his work focuses on radiomics and photon-counting CT — feature stability, spectral reconstructions, cardiac radiomics and radiomics-enhanced biopsy in lung cancer — with more than 30 publications listed on PubMed and an award for the best presentation of the scientific session at ESOI 2024. He is a member of the German Radiological Society (DRG) and the European Society of Radiology (ESR).
